Manlio Benzi - short introductory biography
My early studies of composition and orchestral conducting, combined with literature and musicology, convinced me that poetry, literature, theatre and music are all intercomplementary art forms so in order to combine these disciplines I founded a festival of music and literature in the city of Rimini where I was born. My interest in late 19th century Middle European Music encouraged me to form the Erlebnis Chamber Orchestra and in more recent years, the Notti Malatestiane Festival.
All these fascinating experiences enabled me to experiment with different ways of combining music and the written word, leading to the discovery of many rarities and unpublished works, in constant synergy between scientific and musicological research and necessity of artistic expression.
As well as indulging my passion for rarities, I have worked in the traditional symphonic and operatic field, collaborating with important theatres and orchestras throughout Europe.
I have been teaching conducting at the Conservatorio Rossini di Pesaro since 1999, an experience that I find continually stimulating and invigorating.
